Midweight sleeping pads were once the most popular - indeed the only - type of sleeping pad available.

Today, though, midweight sleeping pads are less popular. And for the common sense reason that they don't work as well as luxury pads do for car camping and not nearly as well as lightweight pads do for backpacking. In the end, a midweight pad might be good for a person who needs a pad for both backpacking and car camping but can't afford two dedicated pads. However, while using a midweight pad for both activities will work, having seperate pads works FAR better!
