The "large dome tent" is probably the workhorse of the general camping
world today. And the reason for this is obvious. A good quality dome
tent works superbly for long camping stays in one spot, but yet take
down and setup quite easily, making it simple to move from place to place
on a daily basis (unlike a family camping tent, which takes more time
and effort to setup).
Dome tents come in many shapes and sizes, but for general car camping
uses, you want to get a large dome tent, especially if you camp with
other people (not alone). Larger dome tents allow space to stretch out
AND are tall enough to fully stand up in. While not as roomy as a family
camping tent (few dome tents have "multiple rooms"), I think the versatility
of these tents make up for this.
If you plan on getting a large dome tent for your camping needs, be
sure to get one that allows you to fully stand up in AND is wide enough
to allow you to stretch out your sleeping pad and/or cot. You want the
extra height so that it is more comfortable, especially on rainy days.
