Red Rock and Desert
As the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway drops down on the eastern side of Dead Indian Pass, the terrain becomes noticeably more arid - and the desert begins basically right at the end of the Byway. The tall mountains in this part of Wyoming act as a massive rain block, keeping areas to the east very dry.
