As all of Discovery Ski Area lies well below treeline, there aren't any true "open bowls" like what is found at Big Sky or Vail. However, the bowls on the northern side of Rumsey Mountain at Discovery Ski Area definitely offer the option to "make your own trail." The trees are fairly widely spaced, allowing skiers and boarders to zoom off the designated trails if they so desire.
