Sorel Cumberland II Boot

The Sorel Cumberland Boot

The Sorel Cumberland II boot is in an interesting boot and is one of the most popular women's styles. The Sorel Cumberland II is, in essence, a cross between the stylish and discontinued Snow Minx and the more rugged, popular Caribou boot. The Cumberland II Boot essentially adopts the function and light-weight of the Snow Minx while retaining the looks of the Caribou boot.

Like other Sorel Boots, the lower part of the Sorel Cumberland II is made of 100% rubber, making the lower part completely waterproof. However, unlike the more rugged Sorel Caribou boot, this boot has a nylon upper that is water/wind resistant but is not waterproof. This nylon upper makes the boot significantly lighter than the Caribou.

The primary difference between the Sorel Cumberland II boot and the Snow Minx is the looks of the upper boot (the discontinued Snow Minx was designed to look a bit more refined while the Cumberland retains the look of the Caribou). Additionally, the Cumberland II laces up like the Caribou boot, where-as the Snow Minx zips up with one front zipper.

Overall, the Sorel Cumberland II Boot is one of Sorel's most popular boots for women for many reasons. It has a temperature rating of -25 degrees and, due to the lack of leather, is quite light. Just remember, the upper part of the Sorel Cumberland II is NOT waterproof. Because of this, you will want to use the boot for what it was created for - day to day uses in yucky weather such as commuting, shoveling the drive way, very cold weather and heading off to work. If you need a boot for use in deep mud or snow, consider the Sorel Caribou Boot instead.

Advantages of the Sorel Cumberland II Boot

The Sorel Cumberland II is, in essence, a boot in similar function to the popular Snow Minx boot, while retaining the looks of the Sorel Caribou boot. Because of this, it makes for an excellent all-around winter boot. That said, these boots are NOT designed for heavy use in deep snow, lots of water or in deep mud as the upper part of the boot is not waterproof.

First, the lower portion of the boot is made of rubber. This provides 100% waterproof protection. The rubber also makes the boot very easy to clean, especially if the boot is muddy. Please note, the upper part of the boot is not waterproof.

Second, the boot provides excellent insulation against cold weather. The boot has a temperature rating of -25 degrees - although you'll need to use a Winter Sock to achieve this level of protection from the cold.

Third, the Sorel Cumberland II Boot does not contain any leather. The lack of leather reduces the weight of the boot substantially, making it quite light for a rather rugged winter boot.
