Technical Backpacks

Carrying an ugly monkey on your back on a long hike is NO fun, which is why I so recommend a technical pack for day hiking. If you've read the Guide to Day Packs, hopefully you agree with me that a pack does more than just hold your gear.

And so, to help you find the right backpack for day hiking, I've listed some good quality packs that are designed for extensive day use in the backcountry. If you need a quick recommendation, look at the line of North Face Technical Packs. They are tough to beat for day hiking.

By having an internal frame or framesheet, you can adjust the pack to perfection AND transfer the weight of the pack off your shoulders and onto your hips instead - no small thing on a 15 mile hike in the mountains!
