The North Face Defender Jacket - Women's

Product Details

Just because you're moving quickly doesn't mean you can't get cold, especially if the wind is whipping. That's why The North Face made the Defender Women's Jacket, a lightweight, breathable, and wind-resistant shell that's designed to cut the breezy chill on fast hikes, mountain runs, and climbs. Its nylon ripstop fabric helps block the wind, and the DWR coating sheds light moisture to keep you dry; but it's the perforated collar, side, and back panels that really make the Defender stand out by giving it nearly unparalleled breathability. There are also knit internal cuffs that form a tight seal around your wrists, a pre-cinched hem that keeps drafts from sneaking up your back, and harness- and pack-compatible pockets that hold maps, energy gels, and your phone.

Fleece Jacket Checklist

Say "No" to Cotton: If you take cotton in the Montana backcountry...you'll be sorry sooner or later.
Pull-Over or Zip-Up? Both are popular and widely available. Make sure you get the right style for your own needs.
Snug Around the Neck? Some people like it...other's don't. But snugness helps keep the cold from seeping in. So it's a feature worth examining.
Pockets? Some fleece has tons of pockets, others none whatsoever. So check the specs before plunking down any money.
