| Agriculture is the main industry along the Hi-Line. However, just as the process of consolidation and increased productivity has caused a loss of population due to the increasing size of ranch operations, the whole process has also hit the businesses that process the crops. The Montana Hi-Line region is filled with old and abandoned grain elevators like this. It's not that the grain isn't being grown. Instead, the consolidation of the industry has led to larger and larger grain elevators - but those elevators are not as numerous as they once were. |
