Water Footwear Checklist

Why? : Read the Water Footwear Guide for details, but in a nutshell a dedicated water shoe/sandal is safer, more comfortable, more durable and provides much better traction on slippery surfaces.
Sandal or Shoe? : Both are fine choices. Only real difference is that water shoes provide more top of the foot protection - which is helpful if you drop something on your foot. That said, many sandals water sandals are of the "closed variety" and thus provide nearly the same protection as a normal water shoe does.
