Sorel Snow Minx Boot Review

Sorel Snow Minx

The Sorel Snow Minx

Note : This boot from Sorel has been discontinued. I've kept the page up for posterity sake.

Similar boots from Sorel include :

Sorel Waterfall (Tall) - A tall, pull-on (no zipper) boot that is very stylish. (Read Review of the Sorel Waterfall Boot)

Sorel Snow Angel - A front zipper boot that is lower in cut than the old Snow Minx.

Old Review

The Sorel Snow Minx is Sorel's answer to providing a fully waterproof lower boot that also looks good. And, I may dare say, I think they exceeded.

Like other Sorel Boots, the Sorel Snow Minx has a lower rubber, which makes the lower part of the boot 100% waterproof (and ideal for sloshing through puddles and slush). Now, what makes this boot rather nice is that it doesn't lace up. Instead, you have one front zipper. Just unzip it all the way to easily slide into the boot - then zip it shut. And yes, the zipper won't slide down, either.

Another nice feature of the Sorel Snow Minx is the stylish Sherpa Pile Collar. While this isn't a true "snow gator" in a strict sense, it certainly looks nice and helps provide a nice, snug feel around the lower leg.

Overall, this is a great boot for day to day use, provided you won't be slogging through deep snow and lots of mud. In short, use the boot what it was created for - day to day uses in yucky weather such as commuting, shoveling the drive way and heading off to work. If you need a boot for deep mud or snow, consider the Sorel Caribou Boot instead.

Styles Available

There is only one style of the Sorel Snow Minx available (it comes in several colors). It is shown below and is available for purchase through Zappos. Zappos provides free shipping on all orders and has a huge selection of footwear. Why buy Boots at Zappos?

Prices : Generally, the Snow Minx retails for around $95, landing it in the "middle tier" of Sorel Boot prices. Usually Zappos has them for around $85 or less.

Advantages of the Sorel Snow Minx Boot

Sorel Snow Minx boots are excellent, fashionable snow boots for day to day use - and which don't look like a typical Sorel boot. That said, these boots are NOT designed for heavy use in deep snow, lots of water or in the mud as the upper part of the boot is not waterproof.

First, the lower portion of the boot is made of rubber. This provides 100% waterproof protection. The rubber also makes the boot very easy to clean, especially if the boot is muddy. Please note, the upper part of the boot is not waterproof. For normal day to day use, this shouldn't be a problem. But try to stay out of deep snow or deep water (which is deeper than the rubber bottom portion of the boot).

Second, the boot provides excellent insulation against cold weather. The boot has a temperature rating of -25 degrees - although you'll need to use a Winter Sock to achieve this level of protection from the cold.

Third, the boot is exceptionally easy to get in and out of, despite the rather tall height of the boot. The boot is opened and closed by a simple zipper on the front of the boot.

Fourth, the Snow Minx Boot does not contain any leather. While to some people this may not be a good thing, it is good feature in that the lack of leather makes the boots easier to maintain and also makes them lighter.
