Default New to Montana

Hey everyone I just moved here this last week from Walla Walla Washington. Im living in Helena going to Taxidermy school. This is my first time in Montana and really like it so far. Im an avid archery hunter and coyote hunter. Ive been spending all my free time locating coyote hunting area. If anyone is looking to do some coyote hunting please let me know.

Welcome to MT!!
I'm in GF , The wind has been horrendous so far this year. The calling sucks because of it. Living in Helena YOU NEED to get a wolf tag your going to call some in if you go anywhere in the mountains. I don't know on your resident status but if you can get one there is a 5 day waiting period to use it and you cant use "E" calls, but you can get near $1000 for a big good pelt. There are lots of bob cats ,fishers, and mountain lions in your area too don't over look them WAY more $$$ in them too.
Well Good luck, you need to get out NOW the caving season in starting and that groups up them dogs...

I DONT KNOW IF A NON RES CAN EVEN GET A FURBEARERS LISCENCE.Be careful what you kill its not a free for all, coyotes ,fox, coons, badger are OK with a conservation license, almost everything else requires a furbearer/trapping license in MT.That said there is some good coyote hunting around here, many of the ranchers/hoots NW of greatfalls/Cascade will let you in if you ask.

It's been a year since I checked the regulations but last check showed you didn't even need a conservation license to hunt predators in Montana. No license of any kind needed to hunt coyotes, foxes and any animal classified as predator. Just be sure you know what is considered "fur bearing" and "game" animals. Check the state regulations always!

Less your hunting School trust ,Then Evey one needs a "Use" permit. Thrust land is in Blue on the maps, it's every were even IN BLM and Privet land...

Well, the state hunting regulations still stand unless there is a "special usage" statute or otherwise controlled area, the state regulations state that no license or permit is required to hunt predators, how ever, D4570 is correct, hunting predators on "state school trust lands" requires a state conservation license. Check your section map! (Is it every section 16 and 36 out of a township for school sections, I forget)? I hunt Montana every year. I won't tell any one to go ahead and hunt predators without the proper licensing but look at the standard regulations and decide for yourself. And, "hooked on phonics" is still a good idea.
