I am sponsored by Minox, they use the same glass as Zeiss, Schott glass. As stated above, good scopes will withstand knocks and recoil, as long as they are coupled with good mounts, i use Sako optilocks on my Sako, no suprise there, and i finally settled on Leupold for my Browning 30-06 Cheers Richard |

Now I go along with what your all saying BUT...
I can't bring my self to put $500 on a $200 gun, sorry. I had a Bushnell elite on my now famous 45/70 and the recoil broke the glass!!! I know its not a top line scope but it's an OK line of scope. I put on a "Cabalas" lever action scope on her and have had nothing but good things to say for a $100 scope. You DO have to get used to the fact when you change the power your changing the point of impact too,IE cheep scope. But after a few 100 shots thats is just part of the picture you see. I have a Redfield on a 375 and it has the same eye relief and none of the POI change. I think the next time I fall and whack the cabalas I'll change to the Redfield.

Pardon, sorry, what? You mean on a variable scope when you change the magnification you change the POI? Are you talking about parallax? Cheers Richard |

No
On some of the cheaper scopes the cross hairs are printed on one of the lenses I think and when you magnify the point of Impact will be higher or lower than on a different power. On mine I have a 0,100 ,200 and 300 yard mark on the scope on 6 power where I normally run it the 1 and 2 hash marks are dead on as I get up to 9 power they will shoot higher. SO on 9 ,I have to use the 200 hash when I'm shooting 300 yards in reverse when I'm on 4 I have to shoot the 300 hash when its 200 yards to the target. ![]()

Not sure who in this thread is putting a $500 scope on a $200 gun???? I do believe spending money on quality optics is a no-brainer.
I've used Leupold's on a .223 as well as a spotting scope. They are good scopes and American made. The Nikon and Vortex are also well made. Several factors went into the purchase of the Zeiss with all my research and testing. I am satisfied. Thanks for everyone's input. |

I have no experience or knowledge of the Zeiss optics other than the name has a lot of history for good optics. I'm sure they make a good rifle scope but I am a stickler for track records and history. I guess I'm maybe old fashioned and will stay with what I know works. As for the Redfield, they have always been great and I have a very old Redfield 3X9 wide angle variable that serves me just fine. And when it comes to changing point of impact when changing magnification, I have never found noticable difference with my Leopolds.
If memory serves me the guy that started the Redfield company was one of the people that was a key person in the Weaver company. (or is it Bushnell) Feel free to correct me on this. For some reason I think this is isn't right but close. I do know you can't go wrong with Leopold. Last edited by jbend : 08-28-2012 at 02:01 AM. |
