What's New at Big Sky Fishing.Com.gif)
This page is simply
a listing of site construction progression. I will list
anything
new that gets posted on this site roughly once every week
or two. As new things are added on a almost daily basis,
this
is a good place to check to look for the latest information
at Big Sky Fishing.Com.
September 1st,
2003 - At long last, the whole gift
center has been completely re-worked to use the new template.
Products have been updated and new things have been added.
Included is a new Country
Home Furnishings section, which
lists Antler
Chandeliers, Terry
Redlin Pine Boxes, Woodcarvings,
Oak
End Tables, Oak
Coffee Tables, Unique
Lamps and more.
The Gift
Center itself now has listings for dog
beds, swiss
watches,
cat
beds, gourmet
gift baskets and a bunch of other stuff.
The whole
calendar section has also been completely updated and revised.
Now featured are Montana
Calendars, Fly
Fishing Calendars,
National
Park Calendars, Wilderness
Calendars and many
more categories that are just in time for 2004.
On the
content side, added in TWO new Glacier National Park photo
galleries. This particular Glacier
National Park photo
gallery is split into two sections. The gallery itself
portrays
a
day in
pictures
while traveling
up the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier Park. Pictures
are displayed in order, starting out in West Glacier and
ending up in St. Mary. The day this trip was taken was
June 3, 2003. The two galleries are the East
Side Pictures gallery and the West
Side Pictures gallery.
August 21st,
2003 - Added in two new sections into
the art gallery - one for Christmas
Pictures and another
one for Winter
Pictures and Scenes. Thought it might
fit in well with the upcoming holiday season. Plus, looking
at a little snow right now is nice, with all the smoke
from the fires and everything!
The whole
Montana Information section
is in the process of being changed and greatly expanded on.
In addition to the previous content, have added in information
about various cities in Montana, including so far Billings,
Great Falls, Kalispell and Missoula.
A new section about Montana
Jobs and Montana
Newspapers has also been added. A few
more cities are yet to be completed. Will also run around
the
state and
grab
some photos of each of these towns once the fires go away
and the skies clear.
Hoping this section will be complete by late September or early October, depending
on photography conditions.
Have also been busy updating the forum on all the fires
burning around Montana. Almost a daily task anymore, surfing
around and finding information. Am hoping that early rain
or snow will cause all these fires to go away and to begin
the process of undoing the damage from the drought.
Also
have brought online a second site, flyfishinggear.info.
This site has kept me busy preparing it and adding in new
content.
The site
is currently getting around 2500 unique visitors per day
on a busy day and around 1500 on a slow day, mainly Saturday.
July 7th, 2003 - Yet
more sections on the site now use our new, banner free
template. Also experimenting with Google AdSense ads,
just to see what kind of ads are displayed. Examples
can be found on our Web Cam page.
We also
now have a personalized Big Sky Fishing.Com Screen Saver. This
very nice screen saver features a couple of trout swimming
in the water, with our logo on the river bed. Really quite
nice. View our Screen
Saver page for download information.
June 10th,
2003 - Virtually the entire site now
uses the new template. Completed updating the lake
fishing section, and made room for more content to be added in
the coming weeks and months.
The art
gallery has also been completely updated and revised.
May 22nd, 2003
- Nearing completion on using the new template.
Completely re-did the Glacier
National Park section and the Home
Based Business section using the new template.
The spin
fishing gear section is now live. Lots more need to be
added and some bugs and kinks need to be worked out, but at
least it's going. More to come - as it stands now - about
500 products are listed along with several buyers guide articles.
Also added
a Kayak
Buyers Guide article.
May 10th, 2003
- So, what's new? Up until the past two weeks
or so, not much! I was out of state for 4 weeks (in WI visiting),
so wasn't able to add anything. And in the two weeks previous
to that, was basically maintaining things to get ready to
be away for so long.
However,
that all changed these past two weeks. A significant expansion
in the fly fishing gear section has occurred, with numerous
products from L.L. Bean now joining in the mix of products
from Cabela's and Orvis. Now listed from LL Bean is luggage,
fly
rods, fly
reels, clothing,
hats,
fly
lines and more. More fly fishing luggage was also added
that is carried by Cabela's. The Buyers Guide articles were
basically re-written, and several new ones about fly
fishing waders and fly
fishing vests have also been included.
New products
from Cabela's are also listed in the camping gear section,
including GPS
systems and cots
and airbeds.
What's
coming next?? A huge expansion - will be listing spin fishing
equipment (such as rods/reels/line/etc
) in the not so
distant future. All of these products will be from Cabela's,
the best and really only place to get all of this stuff. Also
look for an expansion and redesign of the camping/hiking gear
section and a new addition of "country living" in
the near future.
The vast
majority of bigskyfishing now also uses the new, banner free
template. Still need to re-do the Glacier Park and Lake Fishing
sections with the new template, but everything else is done.
Traffic
levels have swelled up to between 1200-2000 unique visitors
per day, eating up around 300-350MB of bandwidth per day.
Ouch! Now, why is my forum so empty??
February 28th,
2003 - Have begun rolling out a new site
template. The new template kills off the one banner on the
site, replacing it with a small picture and helpful text that
better describes the page. The new template utilizes a new
table structure that greatly enahnces the speed at which the
page loads. The new template is now used in the fly fishing
gear, fishing boat, river fishing, art gallery and photo gallery
sections. Will be added to other areas of the site as time
permits.
Added
in additional information about pontoon
boats, float
tubes and inflatable
kayaks - and reorgnized the sections to make it more user
friendly.
January 20th,
2003 - At long last, added a Community
Forum. The forum will allow anglers, people who enjoy
fly fishing in Montana as well as anyone who will be visiting
Montana, to post questions and have them answered by other
members. It will serve as a great way to get information and
meet new people. Other than that, did a lot of tweaking to
the site and added a couple of new sections to the Fly
Fishing Gear section and Book section - including a book
section dedicated strictly to the Orvis
Fly Fishing Books that are available.
December
28th, 2002
- Added a few more listings for fishing guides, fly fishing
rentals and fishing-hiking maps. Pulled out a bunch of typos
that still are found from time to time. Greatly expanded and
modified the Camping
and Hiking Gear section, adding in listings for backpacking
stoves, backpacks,
hiking
boots and other camping gear. Added category listings
for Western
Apparel, including Shearling
Jackets.
December 5th,
2002 - Did a massive optimization of the
web site. Provided alot more cross linking among different
pages, particularly the individual photographs pages. This
should help our visitors navigate the site better as well
as improving things in the search engines. Added specific
pages for select Orvis fly rods, including Orvis
Superfine fly rods, Orvis
TLS fly rods, Orvis
T3 fly rods and Orvis
Clearwater Classic Fly Rods. Also added a fishing
clothing section, fishing
sunglasses section and a fishing
hats section, all from Orvis.
Begin
beta-testing of business listings. Currently have 3 fishing
guides listing their business on our site in a number of differnet
categories for the Yellowstone, Madison, Beaverhead, Missouri
and other major rivers in Montana..
Added
Amazon quick links to most Amazon products listed at bigskyfishing.com.
They look nice and let people know where the product actually
comes from.
Search
engines traffic has increased dramatically following the most
recent Google update. Now getting around 400-450 unique visitors
per day via the Search Engines. Somewhere around 100-200 unique
visitors are also visting the site through direct referral
(bookmark, type in url into the address bar, etc...). Also
added a little icon that will appear in the favorites list
when people bookmark the site - although it is kind of hidden
for Windows 98 users.
Added
a new section of framed
fly fishing prints that are from Cabela's. These are really
nice fly fishing art prints.
