What's New at Big Sky Fishing.Com.gif)
This page is simply
a listing of site construction progression. I will list
anything new that gets posted on this site roughly once
every week or two. As new things are added on a almost
daily basis, this is a good place to check to look for
the latest information at Big Sky Fishing.Com.
May 21st, 2004 - Added
in new sections for several more ski areas in Montana.
Included are reviews and pictures for Moonlight
Basin, Montana
Snowbowl & Discovery
Ski Area.
Also
new are listings of great GORE-TEX
Rain Jackets available through Cabela's. A new Sales
on Fly Fishing Gear section has also been added.
May 8th, 2004 - Added
in a massive section covering Bridger
Bowl, a ski area located near Bozeman.
This
new section contains a 4 page review,
listings of nearby lodging and
2 full photo
galleries.
April 21st,
2004 - Added in a massive section
covering Big
Sky Resort, located in Big Sky, MT.
This
new section contains a whopping 7 page, detailed review
of the ski area. Also included are two photo galleries
that showcase this great ski area. Visit the Big
Sky Resort Photo Gallery.
April 12th,
2004 - Spent about two weeks on the
road skiing in March. Went to 8 additional ski areas
in Montana. The additional pictures and information about
each resort will soon appear on the site, of course.
Have
currently finished two of these sections, one about the
neat little Teton
Pass ski area and the other one about Showdown ski
area.
Stay
tuned for more to come about the skiing in Montana over
the next couple of weeks.
March 5th,
2004 - Added in two neat galleries
to the site. The first new section is the new Montana
Aerial Photos section. This section contains aerial
photos of the various cities in Montana.
The
second new section is the Montana
Maps section. This section of the site contains a
couple of maps that show the precipitation, population
density and other features in Montana.
March 1st,
2004 - Traffic continues to be solid
and steady. Use up between 400 - 600 MB of bandwidth
a day. The art gallery has finally fallen back down to
normal traffic levels after the bizaare spike around
christmas time.
Have
added in the first page of the sites coverage of Montana
Ski Areas. This section includes information about
Big
Mountain, Blacktail
Ski Area and photographs
of these ski areas. Also added in some a section for skiing
magazines and downhill
skiing books.
This
ski section is a long way towards completion - but decided
to put up what I have so far. Hopefully you like it.
Still
checking on the possiblity of adding in a user submitted
photo gallery. Not sure yet if the programs to run this
are compatible with my web hosts web server.
On the
fly fishing side, added in new product information for
Simms
Fishing Waders and updated all products in the fly
fishing gear and fishing
boat section of the site. Also posted information about
a neat new inflatable kayak, the Sea
Eagle 420 Explorer.
February 3rd,
2004 - After a bizaare Christmas period,
where the site was crushed with traffic in the art gallery,
traffic is falling back to more normal levels - around
2500-4000 visitors a day, depending on the day.
Been
busy chasing down dead links as Orvis, Cabela's and others
have added in new products and removed old ones.
Have
just uploaded a bunch of new art galleries to the site.
This is in preparation for the new "Montana Wildlife" section
that will someday soon be appearing on the site. New galleries
include duck
pictures, buffalo
pictures, deer
pictures,
summer pictures, fall
pictures, spring
pictures and even
rabbit pictures, among others.
Also
checking on the possiblity of adding in a user submitted
photo gallery. This will allow Big Sky Fishing visitors
to submit their own photos of either Montana or the various
scenic web cams shots they happen to come across. This
way, scenic web cams shots can be stored
in an archive on this site instead of being lost forever.
Bandwidth
usage fluctuates between 400MB on a slow day and around
600MB on a busy day. Now that Christmas has ended and spring
is slowly approaching, seeing an increase in "fly fishing"related
traffic (much of Christmas traffic was "art related", for
whatever reason.
December 14th,
2003 - Been slacking a bit lately.
Also spent a week hunting out in eastern Montana - got
a nice 3 point Mule Deer/Whitetail Deer Hybrid. Hopefully
I'll get the skin back from the tanners before the end
of 2004! Also will be "splitting" a buffalo - which will
fill my meat locker, to say the least.
Anyways,
finished up the Bozeman
Travel Guide. Most of the Montana
Travel Guide section is now finished. Just a few loose
ends to wrap up.
Also
added in information about the National
Bison Range, including
a photo
gallery of it, too.
Created
an Inflatable
Boat Guide to help people better determine
what type of inflatable boat to get.
Expanded
the christmas and winter pictures gallery. Added in two
new Christmas
Pictures galleries and one new Winter
Pictures gallery.
Traffic
has absolutely exploded since late November - no doubt
helped by the onset of Christmas. Traffic to bigskyfishing
runs from 3000 unique visitors per day on a slow day to
over 5000 on a busy day (generally Monday and Tuesday).
Bandwidth usage now runs between 550MB to 750MB per day.
Glad I have lots of bandwidth to spare! The art gallery
is being especially hard hit with traffic, for whatever
reason (on average, get more than 1000+ unique visitors
per day just to my Christmas Pictures gallery!). Google
referrals have run up to 1600+ on busy days - and still
over 1000+ on slow days. Expect this to taper off quite
a bit once Christmas has passed, though.
November 7th,
2003 - Still making progress on the
Montana Travel
Guide section.
The Billings
Travel Guide, the Missoula
Travel Guide and Kalispell
Travel Guide sections are completed. Also created
a Montana
City Pictures photo gallery for easier navigation
of the ever-expanding Montana
Pictures photo gallery.
Updated
a bunch of dead and/or broken links. Refreshed most of
the river
fishing pages with new creatives, content and
easier on-page "scannability".
Also
went hunting several times and got absolutely nothing.
Hopefully my elk hunt later this November down in the Belt
Mountains will turn up something. Funny how everything
up in Montana sort of shuts down during hunting season.
Also
added in a new section for Art
Magazines.
Oh, on
a side note, Big Sky Fishing for the first time has passed
1000+ Google referrals - happened every day this past week.
Pretty cool. Total site visitation also exceeded 3000+
unique visitors for the first time last week - and has
been running between 2200-3000 this entire week. A new
traffic record for the site. Guess Christmas is coming
- since I'm seeing lots of "odd" search terms hitting the
site via the Search Engines. Total daily bandwidth usage
now is around 400-500 MB per day.
October 27th,
2003 - The new Montana Travel Guide
section is progressing slowly but surely - its painful
making this. Anyways, the Whitefish
Travel Guide, Helena
Travel Guide and Great
Falls Travel Guide are now completed.
All the
new travel guides provide information about each city,
a history about each town, general information and opinions
about each as well as complete hotel and motel listings.
A photo gallery of each city is also included.
Anticipated
full completion for this section is in late October and
or early November.
October 12th,
2003 - Got back from a week long stint
around Montana - visiting all of the major cities in
Montana. This is being done to finish up the Montana
Travel Guide section that I'm creating. Took over
1000 photos of the major towns and cities in Montana.
The travel
guide section will provide information about Butte, Billings,
Bozeman, Whitefish, Kalispell, Missoula, Great
Falls, Helena and West
Yellowstone.
Currently,
the Butte Travel
Guide section is completely finished.
Creating the photo galleries for each city is taking more
time than expected.
Additional
information going into this section is information about
Montana Jobs, Montana
Newspapers, Montana
Weather and a
few other things of interest to people interested in Montana.
Anticipated
full completion for this section is in late October and
or early November.
