Warm Enough? If you can
only afford one jacket, buy one that is warm enough to meet the coldest
weather fishing that you do. |
 |
Enough Pockets & Attachment Points? Like
a fly fishing vest, a wading jacket should have a good supply of
pockets and places to attach your other gear. |
 |
Waterproof? Virtually all
wading jackets are, but some are only "water resistant," which is
basically useless in the rain. Thus, get a jacket that is waterproof
with either Dry-Plus or Gore-Tex. Both these fabrics, besides being
waterproof, are also breathable. |

Lose the Rubber Rain Jacket. Rubber
doesn't allow your body's perspiration to escape...thus essentially
making you wet (and cold) as the minutes turn to hours. Rubber (and
other fabrics that do not breathe) rain jackets are uncomfortable
and useless. |
