Kelty Acadia 4 Tent: 4-Person 3-Season

Product Details

Maine's Acadia National Park is the perfect family adventure, and the Kelty Acadia 4 Four-Person Three-Season Tent is the ideal shelter for a week of picturesque ocean-side camping. It's big enough to comfortably hold the whole family, but not so huge that it's unnecessarily heavy or unwieldy, and the three-pole design makes it easy to set up and take down in a jiffy if you're moving camp or trying to beat the rain. If the drops do start falling, you'll be snug inside the Acadia's fully taped and PU-coated fly and floor. Vents keep air circulating, two vestibules prevent boots from getting rained on, and plenty of guy-out points provide some extra stability in case things get a little windy. In nice weather, the no-see-um mesh lets cool breezes in and keeps the bugs out for comfortable sleeping, and mesh pockets keep books, headlamps, glasses, and keys from getting lost in the shuffle. As a thoughtful bonus, Kelty built the Acadia with two doors to minimize nighttime trampling and designed the zipper pulls to prevent jingling so you won't have any more weird Santa-Claus-is-coming nightmares in the middle of July.

Large Tents Checklist

Cabin vs. Large Dome Tent. What to choose? Cabin tents tend to be larger and usually have one or more "rooms." However, large dome tents are not as heavy or bulky, and usually are easier to setup. If you do NOT need the extra rooms, I'd suggest considering a large dome tent.
Waterproof? Any tent worth's it's name better be waterproof on the bottom AND have a waterproof rain-fly. Why? Sleep in it once during the rain and you won't need to ask.
Many Cabin Tents Are NOT Freestanding. Unlike large dome tents, many cabin tents require many stakes and lots of rope to erect. Keep this in mind when shoppng around for one. Most tents shown on this site, however, are freestanding.
How Tall? If you are going to get a big tent, it makes little sense to get one that is "squat." Thus, for big tents, it's always better to get a tent that is comfortable...and comfortable means one that is tall enough to stand fully erect in.
