Trout Lake is a surprisingly
large lake located in the backcountry of Glacier National Park. The lake
does not receive that much fishing pressure despite having some decent
fishing for cutthroat trout. The reason for this is that Trout Lake isn't
the easiest of lakes to reach, requiring a 2000 foot vertical climb to
the top of Howe Ridge and then a 1200 foot vertical descent down to the
lake. Total trail length of the Trout Lake Trail (the trail used to reach
Trout Lake), is 3.5 miles.
