This view shows Lake McDonald as
seen from the Trout Lake Trail,
from one of the few viewing points (in general, the Trout Lake Hiking
Trail passes through moderately thick forests). It should be noted that
this photograph was taken prior to the Robert Fire in 2003 (about 2 weeks
before it started, actually). Much of the forest you see on the front
side of the lake (the northern shore) was completely burned over during
the fire. The Robert Fire itself burned over much of the terrain that
the Trout Lake Trail passes through - although generally not at a high
intensity, as most of the trees survived the fire within the hiking trails
vicinity.
