This is the "pass" that is located between the Garden Wall
(Continental Divide) and Haystack Butte. The pass itself is, to the best
of my knowledge, not named - so I just call it Haystack Pass for lack
of a better word. Truth be told, this is sort of a "false pass",
as a hiker going down towards Granite Park Chalet still has about a half
mile of relatively gentle climb ahead before the trail begins to lose
elevation as it heads towards the Chalet.
Still, the area at Haystack Pass is the perfect place for lunch, as
it is open, contains a ton of rocks that make handy picnic areas, and
is more or less midway between the trailhead at Logan Pass and Granite
Park Chalet. Oh yeah, the view is pretty spectacular from the pass, too.
Just watch out for the Ground Squirrels...the things are everywhere...and
will happily and stealthily steal your lunch when you aren't looking!
