Glacier National Park has no shortage of Ground Squirrels. And when
hiking on the Highline Trail, you'll see plenty of them. This is especially
so at "Haystack Pass", the informal lunch stop that is more
or less located between Logan Pass and Granite Park Chalet. At this pass,
which is open and relatively flat, Ground Squirrels are everywhere. This
probably isn't a surprise, since the squirrels can pick up a ton of dropped
food from the passing hikers. This particular squirrel was nearly right
on my shoe when I took this picture - so you can see how "tame" these
squirrels are.
