Few fly fishing
books are more helpful than a good book on fly fishing
technique. Without good fly fishing technique, an angler,
no matter how much they know about a particular river
or its hatches, has little chance of having a successful
fly fishing trip for large trout in Montana.

Book
Description from Amazon.Com
A new guide to understanding hatches across the United
States by a noted fly fishing authority. The essence of
trout fishing with a fly is understanding hatches. That
quest for understanding has spawned an entire literature
of fly fishing. Meck's genius is to show the angler that
the understanding we need to catch fish is not the memorization
of hundreds of bugs and their Latin names. The key to
successful fishing is using the right fly at the right
time ("matching the hatch").

Book
Review from Amazon.Com
As long as the reader understands that this book doesn't
cover a lot of tactics, it's a highly useful guide.
The focus is on patterns--how to get the colors right,
how to tie them, and what they imitate.

Book
Review from Amazon.Com
Outstanding work on the Mayfly - the life cycle, location
of specific hatches (and importance in the region),
and even recommendations for flies to be used. There
is a section of color photographs of nymphs, duns, and
spinners of almost every species covered (noted if male
or female) and tying instructions for some of the recommended
flies. Bottom line, for the money, this is an excellent
book you'll be thoroughly happy with. When you've read
it though once you'll have a much better understanding
of the subject and almost feel like a pro.
