Moose are fairly numerous in Montana, but not often seen. Moose prefer
dense wooded habitats, limiting viewing opportunities to mainly lucky
chance encounters. Or unlucky, as it sometimes can be, as Moose are notorious
for being docile 11 months of the year and being downright aggressive
during the fall rut. More than a few Montana hikers and hunters have
had to scurry up a tree or hide under their vehicle to avoid an ill-tempered
moose.
